Position Title:   Director, Bruce Power Projects

Reports to:         Vice President, Services & Projects, BWXT Canada

Location:            Port Elgin, Ontario

Role description

BWXT Canada is looking for a Director, Bruce Power Projects to serve as a senior leader, to help capture and lead engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects related to Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program. This is a massive program involving six reactor facilities and spanning 10-15 years. The Director, Bruce Power Projects’ position will provide excellent visibility both internally and externally at all levels of the organization. The successful candidate must possess senior leadership skills and the ability to establish a high degree of credibility with customers, partners, executive management, and customer and company site personnel.


  • Overall accountability for various Projects to ensure they achieve strategic objectives in bottom-line performance, technical quality, technological innovation and team building
  • Control the activities of multiple technically based groups including both union and non-union personnel
  • Provide leadership, strategic direction and oversight of both Quality Assurance and Quality Control including procedures, processes and systems that will ensure continuous compliance
  • Monitor and report on performance regarding quality, cost, schedule and client satisfaction
  • Establish and maintain a high degree of credibility and communications among all stakeholders including BWXT executive management, joint venture partners, site wide integration team, subcontractors and unions
  • Provide leadership and direction for planning all phases of Projects including implementation of detailed project schedules and milestones
  • Review/analyze/control proposed changes to project plans and cost estimates
  • Coordinate all contractual matters with Bruce Power
  • Manage budget and financial reporting, interpret and analyze reports to ensure adherence to project budgets
  • Establish clear Safety priorities and proactively manage Safety activities; emphasize line management accountability and positive relationships with unions to effectively integrate a safety culture
  • Consistently demonstrate high ethical standards with a “lead-by-example” attitude

Essential skills

  • A proven track record in safe nuclear project management with experience in establishing and maintaining a project culture of safe work
  • Proven experience managing projects from up to $50M
  • Experience managing multi-disciplined project teams involving 50-100 direct staff and labor force of at least 300 personnel
  • Experience working in a Commercial Nuclear environment with competence in P&L responsibility, cost control, scheduling, QA & QC, human performance programs, field engineering, and construction
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements with the ability to be successful in a highly unionized environment
  • Possess a strong, recognizable skill set successfully replacing components in a nuclear facility, including pressure loop components and associated equipment
  • Broad technical, manufacturing and construction experience overseeing trade personnel involved in electrical, millwrighting, boilermaking, pipefitting, involving welding, non-destructive testing, engineering and highly specialized tooling
  • Experience in training simulations and working in a radiological environment
  • Must be an excellent communicator both verbal and written, comfortable with internal and external groups at all levels of the organization
  • Able to participate as a member of the site wide project council managing interfaces with the client and other contractors – always focused on the success of the whole

Desired skills

Education and Certifications:  B.S. in a technical field is preferred, M.S. in a technical field, MBA and/or Project Management Certification are considered a definite plus.
